Regenerative Medicine
What is Regenerative Medicine?
At Pivonka Health and Wellness we offer a comprehensive Regenerative Medicine Program that promotes the body’s own abilities to heal and repair itself. The human body has an amazing ability to heal itself given the right tools. At Pivonka Health and Wellness we give the body those tools through PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and Stem Cell Therapy. PRP and Stem Cell Therapy help accelerate the body’s natural healing process by stimulating growth factors such as cytokines to rejuvenate damaged tissue caused by injury or disease.
What’s the difference between PRP and Stem Cell therapy?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a form of regenerative medicine that utilizes the patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of ligaments, tendons, muscles and joints. PRP is delivered as an injection into the affected area to promote healing. PRP injections are prepared by first drawing the patient’s blood (anywhere from one to two tubes) and then placing the tubes in a centrifuge for 15 minutes to concentrate the platelets. The medical provider then draws up those concentrated platelets into a syringe for an ultrasound guided injection into the affected area. The PRP releases growth factors that stimulate the reparative cells in your body to promote healing.
Stem cells are special human cells that have the potential to develop into specific cells that can be used to repair and regenerate damaged or dysfunctional tissue. In other words, they have the ability to turn into a cartilage cell, muscle cell or nerve cell. When these cells are injected into the injured area, your body responds by accelerating the process of tissue repair.
By replacing damaged cells, new tissue can form which results in the potential of less pain and discomfort. The type of stem cells involved in tissue repair are called mesenchymal stem cells. Mesenchymal stem cells can form bone, cartilage, fat, fibrous connective tissue and cells that promote the formation of blood. Stem cells are isolated from several different sources including bone marrow, blood in the umbilical cord and amniotic fluid.
At Pivonka Health and Wellness we use Coretext from Regenerative Labs, which harnesses the powerful properties of Wharton’s Jelly derived from human umbilical cord tissue. Wharton’s Jelly products are rich in cytokines, growth factors and proteins essential components necessary for regeneration. The Coretext injection is a one- time injection that is given by your medical provider under ultrasound guidance into the area of concern. According to Regenerative Labs, “Coretext injectables have shown to be effective within the orthopedic, sports medicine and pain management industries.”
